Because of the limitation of time, i did not have very long to mix the overall soundtrack. However, throughout the track laying editing process I mixed as i went through it, making sure the levels of each track sound right in the over all volume. I then bounced out each category of audio, That being: Dialogue, location audio, foley and spot fx, and music. This created sub tracks for me to mix easier.
I used a reference film called: No Country for old men (2007) this film uses silence very well, which is what i wanted to implement in my soundtrack.
From this i chose various scenes that compared with the scenes i was working on.
I found that the average level of dialogue was around -24 up to -18 depending on the suttleness of it
The outside atmospheres were sat around -48 to-42
Music was sitting around -36 to -30 and louder
Therefore used faders and automation to roughly match my levels to this as a guide.
